#TLApproved: MEET JADA JENKINS
Describe what you do in one sentence.
Make women feel great about themselves.
On those days when you are just not feeling it, what motivates you to show up 110%?
Knowing that someone's story is worse off than mine. You never know what someone else is facing. Some days I may not feel like being here but there is someone out there doesn't have a job or doesn't like their job. I always feel so grateful and honored that God gave me the gift to be able to share with the world and enjoy doing it!
Tell us what success looks like to Jada
Success to me is someone in a happy place. Someone who enjoys life, their time being with friends and family.
What was your dream career as child?
A hairstylist. I cut the back of my hair all the way off when I was 5 years old (I have pictures) and my mother was devastated. From the age of 5, I had a book where you put in your school picture, your weight, your height and what you wanna be, and literally from the age of 5 since I could write, I said 'do hair'. Sometimes people feel that doing hair is not a good profession but my mother was so adamant about making sure that I did what I wanted to do and wouldn't force me to do something that she wanted me to do. So that's what helped me into my dream of doing hair. She said "if this is what you want to do, go 'head and do it."
Jada recently opened her brand new salon space, L'Amour de RoSE, in maryland, usa; where she specializes in texture services & styles.
Finish this sentence: "If in doubt...."
...pray or ask questions. I've really learned that it is okay to ask questions. Its okay not to know everything. Even though I have a cosmetology license, I don't know everything - so it's okay to ask. That's why we're a team!
What phrase do you live by?
Everything you desire is on the other side of fear. Meaning if you fear it, go after it. A lot of people are scared, and it holds them back from so many things. Every class I teach, I always open up with that. Being on this [MIZANI] team, I was scared. I didn't want to try out but I had to go after it and I would never be where I am if I didn't face my fears.
So how did you become a MIZANI Artist?
Three or four years ago, I saw a post on Instagram saying they were hiring. I knew I wanted to step outside of my comfort zone. Sometimes in this industry, as a stylist, you have those doubts where you think [other stylists] are going to reject you. I was in that moment. I battled with it - am I going to audition or not? But I sent in my submission right on the deadline (midnight) and got the call back.
What are the three products/tools you cannot travel without.
My 25 Miracle Milk. I love love looove! I am loving the MIZANI HRM Spray and you know what else I really love? The Foam Wrap! I use it on my natural hair clients. I have a texture wig and I use Foam Wrap to enhance those curls and love the longevity it gives my hair throughout the day. I know for sure that I won't be walking around with a big ol' frizz ball of a mess. Those are my must-haves when I am on-the-go.
What is the legacy you want to leave on this Earth?
I want people to say when Jada was around, she was happy and she was respectful.
